Charles N. Shepardson
- Governor, Board of Governors, 1955–1967
- Born: January 7, 1896
- Died: August 25, 1975
Charles N. Shepardson served on the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System from March 17, 1955, until April 30, 1967.
Shepardson was born in 1896 in Littleton, Colorado. He received a bachelor’s degree from Colorado A&M University in 1917 and earned a master’s degree from Iowa State College in 1924. In between obtaining these degrees, Shepardson was a US Army captain (1917–19), an animal husbandman at the University of Wyoming (1919–20), and an associate professor at Colorado State College (1920–28). He remained an associate professor for four years after receiving his master’s degree, leaving in 1928 to become head of the dairy husbandry department at Texas A&M University. In 1944, Shepardson was promoted to dean of agriculture, a position he held until becoming a member of the Board of Governors.
Like some of the early governors, Shepardson was knowledgeable about agriculture. He was involved in the dairy industry and served as a US delegate to the World’s Dairy Congress (1937), director of the American Jersey Cattle Club (1940–43), a member of the Inter-American Committee for Dairy Industry (1947), and a member of the American Dairy Science Association. In addition, Shepardson was president of the Association of Southern Agricultural Workers and was involved with two education associations.
Shepardson’s first wife died shortly after their marriage, leading him to remarry. He had no children.
Shepardson died in 1975.
