What is the Fed?

As the nation’s central bank, the Federal Reserve System has three primary responsibilities: conducting monetary policy, supervising and regulating banking institutions, and providing payments services to banking institutions. Economic conditions in the U.S. and worldwide depend on how well the Fed does its job, and that affects everyone.
